The Animals Are Looking At Me Funny...

They know something is up. Oscar the cat has been following me around the yard meowing like he was starving to death. The goats just want food. We have been cleaning out the freezer, so Kevin fed them some old, yucky tamales we had. It was so cute to watch them try to lick the lard off those corn husks, kind of like something you'd see on an old Looney Toons.

It is finally seeming real, as we begin to stuff our stuff into boxes. I look at it all and wonder again how I can be so attached to it. That is part of the pull to travel, I guess. To see how other people live in the world, to realize how charmed we are and to contemplate whether I need to tweak my values a bit. As we sit here agonizing over which gore-tex boots to bring and how many sunblock shirts it is hard not to think of indigineous Guatemalans carrying heavy loads in a basket wearing flip-flops. Still it is hard to leave the comforts of home and the love of friends. At the same time, we won't have to open any damn bills for a few months. Hallelujah!

The Elusive Chantrelle...

We spent last Saturday in one of our top ten favorite pursuits, hunting mushrooms. There are moments when crashing through the underbrush, getting whipped in the eye by branches and having hemlock needles fall down your shirt seems just crazy...until...you peak under a log and find the buttery gold treasure you were searching for. It seems even less crazy when you get home, take a shower and sautee up your prize. YUM!

Wedding on the Beach

This was our wedding on September 23,2006. This beach at Fort Worden has been a special place for us and we really wanted to get married there. We were so happy that the weather cooperated! It was an amazing day for us and we thank everyone who was able to be there. It was incredible to have so many people help in so many ways. Kevin and I were able to let go of the details and thoroughly enjoy the experience.
